Himachal Pradesh: Mob thrashes group of 10 suspecting them to be terrorists in Chamba

DHARAMSHALA: A group of ten people, including two Hindus and eight Gujjars, were thrashed by a mob at Rajera village of Chamba in Himachal Pradesh on Monday late night. A major clash was averted due to timely intervention of police authorities.

Superintendent of police Monika Bhutungru confirmed the incident stating that the group had two Hindu and eight Gujjars who were suspected as terrorists by villagers but timely intervention of police averted the major clash.

Medical tests were also conducted for the people after inquiring them at local police station of the area. It was learnt that there were four people from Jammu and Kashmir and three each were from Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

“They all have come here to a local exorcist for some treatment and were returning. They could not satisfy the local people after they inquired them on getting suspicious about them being terrorists,” said a source, requesting anonymity.

After the India-Pakistan stand-off, people of the region are scared about infiltration of terrorists considering this place as a safe heaven.

It was in 1998 that 35 people were killed in this district. Chamba shares borders with Jammu and Kashmir. A majority of Muslim population also lives in this area and many of them have their relatives in Pakistan too.

Due to the heavy snowfall, many villages of Chamba are cut off from rest of the valley these days.
