Hospital releases Harinath's body

Vijayawada: As Karanam Saraswati and her husband Subba Rayudu made their maiden visit to Vijayawada, they held a renewed hope after three months of exasperating attempts of curing their grandson of muscular dystrophy and other illnesses.

Two days later, they were devastated. On Wednesday, Saraswati and Rayudu returned to their village at Rajupalem in Kadapa district with their grandson’s body.

Speaking to TOI, a distraught Saraswati said her younger son, who works in Bengaluru came to know about Bhoomeshwer Rao, exuded confidence that our grandson can be cured.

“We wanted our grandson to get well and go back to his studies. If only we hadn’t come to Vijayawada, we could have prolonged his life, but we never saw this coming,” an inconsolable Saraswati told TOI.

A pall of gloom descended at Vijayawada GGH as pathologists handed over Harinath’s body after the post-mortem.

“We brought him here after listening to his (Rao’s) promises of curing my grandson’s muscular dystrophy and enhance his neurological functions within two months enabling him to run and study. While he asked us to give the pill to him every hour, we gave it for every 1 and half hour and fed him fruits and milk. He soon collapsed in his chair biting his tongue and frothing from his mouth and eventually died,” Saraswati recounted the horror of seeing her grandson passing away.
