Houseflies menace at Kishangarh airport miffs flyers

Ajmer: Several poultry farms have come up around Kishangarh airport which has led to swarms of flies tormenting officials and passengers. The matter was taken up by the BJP MP Bhagirath Choudhary in district development coordination and monitoring committee’s meeting on Thursday. Officials reported to the district administration that poultry farms around the airport are responsible for flies coming to the airport.

Officials said that these flies torment passengers. They have asked the husbandry department to check the norms about construction around airport.

Kishangarh airport was inaugurated by former chief minister Vasundhara Raje in October 2017 but the services started in 2018. At present there are some flights to cities including New Delhi. More domestic flights will be added in future considering the crowd coming to Pushkar and Ajmer Dargah.

The demand for airport surfaced in 1980 when former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi visited Ajmer. The Saradhna village on Beawer Road was identified for the airport but the land owners filed litigation. On September 21, 2013, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid foundation of the airport. The airport has been constructed in 719 hectare land and costs around Rs 264 crore. According to private airlines, Ajmer is profitable for aviation industry because thousands of tourists come here.
