Howrah Metro Station In Kolkata All Set To Be The Deepest Metro Station In The Country!
The Indian Railways recently shared the first look of the structurally completed underground Howrah station. The metro station is all set to be the deepest Metro station of India and beat the record held by Chawri Bazar metro station on Delhi Metro’s Yellow line station.

The Howrah Metro according to Indian Railways is set be at 105 ft below the surface, on the East-West Metro alignment which has been completed in 17 months.
Kolkata East-West Metro line is 16.6-km long and the project will be completed by 2021, according to reports.

This station has 5 slabs and 4 levels and is set to be a key station on the Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor as it will connect one of the busiest Indian Railways’ stations i.e; Howrah Junction railway station (HWH).

According to Financial Express, it's going to serve as a central point for all those boarding or deboarding trains from Howrah Railway station from across the city.
The Financial Express reports that Howrah metro station will also be connected to India’s first under-river metro tunnel.
The tunnel is being built beneath the distributary of Ganga- Hooghly river. Reports state that passengers travelling between these two stations will spend around one minute under the river.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted about the development on July 25, saying, ‘Operating under Indian Railways, Kolkata Metro has constructed the first-ever transport tunnel in the country which will pass through underwater.’
Out of the total 16.6 km long Kolkata Metro East-west corridor, 5.8 km section will be elevated and 10.8 km will be part of the underground corridor, states FE report.
