Hyundai QXi to rival Maruti Suzuki Brezza, launch in May

The new vehicle, expected to be priced between Rs 7-10 lakh, will compete against Maruti Suzuki's Vitara Brezza and the newly launched Mahindra XUV300. NEW DELHI: Hyundai India on Friday released a teaser of its upcoming compact SUV, codenamed QXi. The new vehicle, expected to be priced between Rs 7-10 lakh, will compete against Maruti Suzuki's Vitara Brezza and the newly launched Mahindra XUV300.
Slated for a launch in May 2019, the SUV will break cover next month.

The official video titled “Project: When you live to explore” gives a glimpse of a heavily camouflaged sub-4 metre SUV with a sunroof, roof rails and sleek LED projector headlamps. Hyundai’s trademark cascading grille and sporty alloys complement the looks.

If industry speculations are to be believed, Hyundai’s new offering will be named ‘Styx’. While the body dimensions will differ, the Styx is expected to take design cues from its elder sibling Creta.

Hyundai’s brief description with the video describes the vehicle as a ‘powerful yet sophisticated machine to explore performance, drivability and comfort’. The 48-second video shows the SUV running tests along the Chennai-Puducherry expressway. Towards the end, the video confirms that the new SUV will be further examined at the Aravalli ranges to inspect its off-roading capabilities.

The compact SUV is expected to be offered with two petrol and one diesel engine options i.e a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol and a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine along with a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine. While it's early to speculate the availability of an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission), it is predicted to make the cut.
