Idol theft case: DSP Kader Batcha arrested in Chennai

CHENNAI: The idol wing CID police on Thursday arrested deputy superintendent of police ( DSP ) Kader Batcha in connection with an idol theft case . The police nabbed Batcha from his friend’s residence in Chennai.

The police informed him that he was arrested for colluding with some suspects in the theft of idols from the Sri Narumpoonatha Swamy Temple in Pazhavoor near Tirunelveli in 2005.

In 2016, the idol wing police arrested international idol smuggler P Subhash Chandra Kapoor and a few others in connection the theft of idols from the Pazhavoor temple.

After his arrest , Batcha was produced before a special court for idol wing cases in Kumbakonam in the early hours of Friday. The court remanded him in judicial custody. He has been lodged in Trichy Central Prison.
