Idukki: Man arrested under JJ Act for abandoning kids

IDUKKI: Devikulam police arrested a man under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 for allegedly abandoning his minor children .

The arrested person has been identified as B Anand (31), a resident of Devikulam Manila division estate in Munnar. Anand allegedly abandoned his wife and children and was living with a woman in Tamil Nadu, said the police.



Anand, who was accused of assaulting his neighbour, was absconding for over a month. Later, he got anticipatory bail from Kerala high court. After getting the bail, he fled to Tamil Nadu and started living with another women. His wife filed a man-missing complaint with the Devikulam police and during the probe, the police found that the accused was living with another woman in Tamil Nadu. “As a father, it was his duty to ensure the protection of his eight and two-year-old children. But, the accused failed to do so and abandoned them,” said Munnar deputy SP M Ramesh Kumar.

“In Munnar region, hundreds of men abandon their spouse and children and live with other women. We will take strict action against such men. We will slap JJ Act against them and send them to jail,” said Kumar.

Devikulam SI K Dileep Kumar had led the police team which arrested the accused. “The accused had violated his anticipatory bail condition and we will take steps to cancel his bail,” said the police.
