IIT-Madras Entrepreneurship Cell kicks off fourth edition of E-Summit

CHENNAI: Indian Institute of Technology-Madras’ Entrepreneurship Cell on Tuesday launched the fourth edition of its flagship entrepreneurship conclave, E-Summit 2019, to be held from March 8 to 10.

In a first, this year’s summit has been able to attract a potential investment pool of up to Rs 5 crore, which is available for its investment session Elevate, co-sponsored by NetApp Excellerator.

As a student-run entrepreneurial conference, E-Summit aims at connecting startups, investors and students, and nurture a culture of entrepreneurship among participants.

The event is also introducing the Entrepreneurship Marketing Conclave segment this year to help startups enhance marketing skills.

IIT-M’s E-Cell conducted an awareness session called E21 to promote entrepreneurship among over 5,000 school students across India, and the four selected teams will be showcasing their work during the summit.

Other sessions part of the three-day event include Inspirit, a speaker series to inspire young entrepreneurs featuring talks by Mekin Maheshwari, founder, Udhyam Learning Foundation, Amod Malviya, co-founder, Udaan, and Rajan Singh, co-founder, ConceptOwl, among others.

The summit will also host the Startup Bootcamp, a challenge for student-led startups along with mentoring sessions.

Speaking at the launch, Ashwin Mahalingam, faculty advisor, E-Cell, said, “The E-summit has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few years and now reaches out and inspires a large number of young budding entrepreneurs in colleges all over the country.”

Latha Venkitachalam, executive director, IIT Madras Alumni Association, said, “IIT Madras EcoSystem has been very encouraging for the students to explore entrepreneurship right from its inception.”
