'Illegal mining in Nagpur district': Maharashtra home minister conducts 'surprise checks' at sand ghats


NAGPUR: Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, accompanied by stare guardian minister Nitin Raut, conducted surprise checks at the sand ghats on Tuesday following complaints of illegal mining in the Nagpur district .


The home minister was accompanied by divisional commissioner Sanjeev Kumar, collector Ravindra Thakare and senior police officials including IG Mallikarjun Prasanna and SP Rakesh Ola.



Deshmukh had already taken a review meeting of the illegal excavations of the sand ghats and unauthorized transportations around a fortnight ago. On Tuesdsy, the home minister had summoned the senior officials for review of the action taken following his last meeting on the issue.

Deshmukh decided to take a surprise stock of the situation himself in the follow-up to his latest meeting at the office of the divisional commissioner.

Deshmukh is learnt to have visited the police stations of Khapa, Saoner and Mouda in the rural district where maximum sand ghats are located. He also visited an illegal sand dumping site at Khapa where the home Minsiter ordered seizure of trucks and JCB machine after spotting them parked in the vicinity.
