In Assam, hoardings and posters to be brought down

GUWAHATI: With the model code of conduct having kicked in, the chief electoral officer (CEO) of Assam, Mukesh Sahu, has ordered the removal of all government hoardings, advertisements, wall advertisement, wall writing as well as posters immediately.

On Monday, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) general secretary Ranjan Bora in a letter had requested the CEO to remove all government advertisements and hoardings from the state immediately.

Sahu said, "Already action has been taken as a part of the standard procedure. Removal of the hoardings and advertisements began in the state immediately after the announcement of the date of polls on Sunday."

Meanwhile, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration, in a meeting on Monday, directed with the top officials of the district administrations, police and other agencies to ensure that no violation of the model code of conduct is done in the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency.

"The circle officers have been asked to monitor the code violations. They have been also asked to remove all the government hoardings, posters, advertisements or wall paintings immediately. The Guwahati Municipality Corporation (GMC), Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) and private agencies have been ordered to remove the government advertisements and hoardings. It should not take long. The process should be completed within two days," said a Kamrup (Metro) official.

The metro administration has also decided to open a round-the-clock model code of conduct monitoring cell at the circuit house here. An additional deputy commissioner-level officer has also been appointed as the nodal officer for the cell.
