In Himachal Pradesh, CBI questions 8, including 2 bank officials

Shimla: CBI on Monday questioned six employees of a private educational institute from Una and two bank officials in connection with Rs 265 crore scholarship scam. All eight were questioned at CBI police station in Shimla. According to sources, six employees of private educational institution and two bank officials had played a key role in the scholarship scam and their statements were recorded.



Sources said during investigation, CBI had found that private educational institute having its campuses at Pandoga and Nawanshahr had changed the caste of students to get the scholarship money. To get more scholarship money, students belonging to scheduled caste were shown as scheduled tribe. While SC category students get Rs 50,000 scholarship per annum, scheduled tribe students get Rs 98,000 per annum.

Private institutes under CBI scanner not only changed the caste of students, but it also changed the stream of students. Soon, sources said CBI will be filing first charge sheet in which half a dozen employees of private educational institute, education department and bank have been named.

Sources said charge sheet will be filed against 22 private educational institutes, which are under probe. TNN
