In mkt, trawlers' body wants preference

Margao: Days after the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) earmarked separate space in the wholesale fish market for ramponkars (local fishermen), a delegation of trawler owners association on Wednesday met SGPDA chairperson Wilfred D’Sa demanding that they be accorded preference in the market over wholesale fish traders .

Speaking to TOI after the meeting, D’Sa said that the trawler owners want them to be allowed to enter the market and sell fish before wholesale traders are allowed in.

“Their contention is that the wholesale fish market was built for the benefit of ramponkars and trawler owners, and not for wholesale traders. They are demanding that the traders be allowed in the market only after they are done with selling their catch,” he said.
