Railways to give 1.1 lakh jobs in 2018

A record 2.8 crore people have applied for the nearly 1.1 lakh railway jobs in what is described as the world’s largest recruitment exercise.

Railway ministry said the new job creation will cost Rs.4000 crore per annum and as of now the Railways spent Rs.76,452 per annum on staff expenses

The job drive is also an alleged political plan to blunt the opposition’s criticism on non-fulfillment of BJP poll promise of job creation and could be a boon for ruling party in the 2019 polls campaign.

Indian Railways has a staff strength of 13 lakh and the vacancies have arisen due to decade-long freeze on recruitment with focus on cost-cutting and a sharp jump in the wage bill.
