Indapur quizzes villagers on coronavirus awareness

Online questionnaire tests people; they feel it should reach the ones without tech as well

An online quiz is Indapur administration’s idea to check on awareness among locals on COVID-19 and it is working with the residents, who claim to be more knowledgeable after taking it. The success reflects more so in the result which stands at 100 per cent after all the participants showed extreme awareness.

The villagers have lauded this move, but have also listed its limitation — the quiz cannot reach those who cannot read or do not have a smartphone.

Nonetheless, the quiz is the talk of the town at Indapur. Two days ago, the link of this quiz was first shared and now, it has gone viral. The link was a part of Indapur administration’s awareness campaign on COVID-19. The participant has to answer 10 different questions on basic information, regarding symptoms of COVID-19 and how to shield self from the virus.

The quiz was the brainchild of block development officer Vijay Parit. He said, “During the Swachh Survekshan, the government used to conduct such surveys for a feedback. I thought of the quiz on these lines. My team immediately prepared questions through which basic awareness could be created. We are getting a good response and expecting to circulate it further.”

In two days, 258 residents have participated in the quiz all of whom have scored 100 per cent marks. But according to the villagers, the awareness is just not limited to the score. They claimed that people have been distancing from one another and are following other norms.

The villagers, however, feel that this quiz needs to be taken to those who do not have access to a smartphone.

Amol Gurav of Agoti village in Indapur taluka said, “I got the link to the quiz on the village group. Each question had 10 marks. And, I got 100 out of 100 marks. This was an interesting way of creating awareness and checking if my knowledge was updated. While this will work for the educated crowd, the ones without technology and those who cannot read, will suffer.”

Vinod Dalvi, another resident of Indapur taluka, said, “After solving the quiz, the people get to know where they stand. Because people are discussing the test and the answers, they are being more alert on what needs to be done to keep COVID-19.”
