Infrastructure boost: Rs 7,400 crore for 10 Metros, Rs 3,000 crore for sea link
MUMBAI: With a focus on speedy implementation of infrastructure projects in the city, especially Mumbai Metro and Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), the authority meeting chaired by CM Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday approved a Rs 16,909-crore budget presented by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for 2019-20.
MMRDA has made a budgetary provision of Rs 7,4 00 crore for 10 Metro projects and Rs 3,000 crore for MTHL project.
" Metro networks and MTHL are the city's two most important projects. We aim to complete work on Metro 2A and 7 next year as 60%-65% work is complete," said RA Rajeev, metropolitan commissioner. While Metro 2A (Dahisar-D N Nagar) has been allocated Rs 1,895 crore, Metro 7 (Andheri East to Dahisar via Western Express Highway ) has received Rs 1,921 crore and Rs 100 crore has been set aside for the seven-storey Metro Bhavan that will come up at Aarey, which will be an operation and control centre for all 13 Metro corridors in the city and the metropolitan region.

Work on the 22-km MTHL project, which includes a six-lane 16.5km creek bridge with interchanges at Sewri in Mumbai and at Chirle in Navi Mumbai, will gain momentum in the coming months, he added.
MMRDA has set aside Rs 50 crore for the Bal Thackeray memorial at Shivaji Park and around Rs 150 crore for the B R Ambedkar memorial on Indu Mills land. "More funds can be made available for the memorials, if necessary," Rajeev said.
The agency made a provision of Rs 150 crore for the 11.3-km second phase of monorail from Wadala to Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk, which is expected to roll from Sunday. Rajeev said, "The money will be used for operational costs as well as procurement of new rakes."
MMRDA has earmarked Rs 100 crore for the extension of Santacruz-Chembur Link Road up to Vakola and construction of elevated road from BKC to Western Express Highway, Rs 75 crore for the elevated road at Chheda Nagar and Rs 54 crore for development on Kalina university campus. The authority also allocated Rs 704 crore for the 403mld Surya Regional Water Supply Scheme undertaken to provide bulk supply to Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar municipal bodies.
