Inmate tries to kill self in Haridwar jail

HARIDEAR: A 36-year-old jail inmate attempted suicide by hanging himself inside the barrack of Haridwar jail on Monday morning.


However, other inmates saw him and informed the jail guards after which he was saved and rushed to the district hospital from where he was shifted to a higher facility for treatment.

According to jail administration his condition is now stable.

The jail inmate has been identified as Rajnish Singh, a resident of village Rohalki under Bhadrabad police station jurisdiction of district Haridwar.

He was awarded a lifetime jail-term in a murder case and he is serving his imprisonment term in Haridwar jail since 2002. He has been urging officials for his release saying that he already has spent almost 18 years in jail.

Commenting on the incident, SM Singh, jailor of Haridwar jail told TOI, “Rajnish was upset over his imprisonment term and wants to be released from jail. He tried to end his life on Monday morning but we managed to save him."
