Instead Of Celebrating Eid, About 300 Pune Families Donated To Sangli & Kolhapur For Flood Relief

Eid-Al-Adha was celebrated with festive fervour across the globe on Monday. However, close to 300 families from the Maharashtrian city of Pune decided not to “celebrate” but to donate money for relief in Kolhapur and Sangli which have faced wide scale devastation due to incessant rain.

A social worker named Azaz Kazi travelled to flood- affected regions on Eid.

He carried relief supplies, including food packets and clothes for the needy.

“There are four trucks fully loaded. Also, it is not only me who has decided not to celebrate Eid, but there are as many as 300 such Muslim families in Pune who have chosen not to celebrate. All these families have donated an amount they had saved to buy animals to sacrifice and new clothes for their families. This is just a small gesture to remember those who lost their lives in this flood,” he was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

A student’s group known as Sarhad Jammu and Kashmir Students Association further announced its plans of adopting 100 students from flood-affected Sangli and Kolhapur districts and help them financially for a year.

Well, in these times when stories of neglect and selfish goals are rife in newspapers and on the internet, this is truly something to cherish as well as appreciate.

Afterall, Eid celebrations would have ceased at the end of the day but the little support that the affected must have received from these contributions may actually go a long way in bringing some relief to them in their hour of need.
