Inter-state police meet to discuss liquor and cash during elections

PATIALA: To counter the flow of drugs, liquor and cash during elections the inter state police held a joint meeting in Shambhu area of Patiala on Thursday evening.


The officials discussed over the proper implementation of Model Code of conduct for general elections.

The officials claimed that strategies were discussed to check illegal activities including drugs and liquor flow during the elections.

The liquor in Haryana is also cheaper in comparison to Punjab while the district shares the border areas with Haryana.

Officials including Patiala SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu, SSP Ambala Mohit Handa, SSP Kaithal Wasim Akram , Additional Deputy Commissioner Ambala Captain Shakti Singh and some other officials from both Punjab and Haryana were present in the interstate meeting held on Thursday evening.

The decisions and strategies to hold collective checkpoints, police patrolling another measures to counter the cash or liquor flow were taken in the meeting. Besides this, we have to ensure security to voters and ensure the law & order during elections.

Mandeep Singh Sidhu, SSP Patiala said, “Special checkpoints at entry and exit points among adjoining areas of the two state will help in countering the illegal activities including the inflow of illegal liquor, cash and drugs among both the states. Besides this, it would be easier to nab the persons whosoever will indulge in any violence and try to escape through borders of state. We will keep a tab on the link roads too shared between both the states."

He added that a three level strategy has been prepared for the purpose of ensuring security and law and order. The checkpoints at various sensitive places will be permanent while at some places the checkpoints will be kept changing. The inflow of drugs from areas including Saharanpur, Ambala and other border areas of these states will be plugged in though already the police on both sides have been countering illegal liquor and drugs.”
