International nagar kirtan accorded warm welcome

Abohar: The international nagar kirtan (religious procession) that commenced from Nankana Sahib in Pakistan to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev was accorded a warm welcome at Gumjal village, on the Punjab-Rajasthan border, in Fazilka district on Tuesday.

Fazilka deputy commissioner Manpreet Singh Chhatwal and senior superintendent of police Bhupinder Singh were present with the district officials to receive the procession.

On reaching Gumjal, nagar kirtan was given a rousing welcome by the pipe band of the 23 Sikh Regiment of the Army.

Hundreds of followers were gathered along the road to greet the nagar kirtan and bowed before Guru Granth Sahib. The procession will go via Usman Khera, Kallar Khera, Giddrawali, Daulatpura, Khuian Sarwar, Haripura, Saidanwali, Alamgarh bypass and Guru Nanaksar Toba in Abohar from where it will march towards Muktsar via Gobindgarh and Kundal village.
