Is Amazon Prime Video's upcoming show 'Bandish Bandits' inspired by the talented Pandit Ravishankar and his first wife? Let's find out!

The trailer for Amazon Prime Video's upcoming show 'Bandish bandits released on the 20th of July and garnered a lot of appreciation and admiration from the audience. The plot revolves around the love story between the characters of Radhe, who is a singing prodigy extremely dedicated to classical music and Tamanna, who wants to become India's first international pop star.
The story follows Radhe's struggle between helping Tamanna achieve superstardom and staying true to his own music.

However, the story seems to hold close resemblance to the real-life story of Pandit Ravi Shankar who was a "Sitar maestro" and a composer of Hindustani classical music whose first wife was Annapurna Devi who was equally passionate about music. Ravi Shankar was a student of ustad Allauddin Khan who was leading Maihar Gharana, who was father to Anupama Devi.

Alauddin Khan was not inclined to teach music to Anupama but changed his mind after seeing her dedication. Ravi Shankar and Anupama Devi both fell in love while learning music but Anupama Devi started getting more praises than Ravi Shankar when they started performing worldwide. This made Ravi Shankar very insecure and Anupama Devi decided to not do public shows anymore.

Could it be that the makers have taken inspiration from their love story from the classical era? We'll find out on the 4th of August when the show releases! The show will have a stellar cast of Shreya Chaudhry and Ritwik Bhowmik at the forefront and will include Naseeruddin Shah, Atul Kulkarni, Amit Mistry, Sheeba Chaddha, Rajesh Tailang, Kunaal Roy Kapur and Rahul Kumar in prominent roles.

Produced and created by Amritpal Singh Bindra and directed by Anand Tiwari, the series is set in Jodhpur. Bandish Bandits also features an original soundtrack, composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, who are also making their digital debut with this show. The series will consist of 10 episodes. So mark your calendars!
