J M Bhawad withdraws plea

AHMEDABAD: Absconding cop J M Bhawad on Thursday withdrew his petition demanding quashing of an arrest warrant issued against him by a special anti-corruption court in Rajkot.


DSP Bharwad withdrew his petition after Justice S H Vora did not seem inclined to accept the request to quash the arrest warrant.

The Rajkot court issued an arrest warrant against Bharwad under provisions of Section 70 of the CrPC on September 18 in connection with a graft case. On September 5, the high court had refused pre-arrest bail to Bharwad.

Bharwad has gone into hiding since August 3, when a constable Vishal Sonara was arrested in Dhoraji town by the sleuths of anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on charge of accepting bribe of Rs 8 lakh on behalf of Bharwad. The constable had been talking to Bharwad on phone when he was arrested.
