Jaipur, Ajmer, Tonk to reap Bisalpur bounty

Jaipur: Public health engineering department (PHED) has decided to increase water supply to Jaipur city from 330 MLD daily to 360 MLD from September 1.

As the heavy rainfall this monsoon has already filled the Bisalpur Dam to its capacity, PHED officials held a meeting at secretariat on Wednesday to increase the water supply slowly without any hurdle from September 1.

From next month, after the increase in water supply in Jaipur, the Walled City will receive water for 60 minutes instead of 45 minutes currently.

Ajmer city, which is facing severe water crisis, will receive water in every 48 hours unlike 72 hours right now. As per the plans made by the department, Ajmer has being receiving 250 MLD of water which will be increased to 315 MLD.

Similarly, Tonk district will receive 53 MLD instead of 45 MLD daily, and Jaipur rural will receive 54 MLD instead of 42 MLD everyday from the Bisalpur Dam. The dam is in full capacity and both the gates are opened releasing excessive water. Though, the amount of water released has been reduced from 6000 cubic feet per second to 4000 cubic feet per second.

PHED chief engineer, Islamuddin Khan, while talking to TOI said that the department has made the entire plan and will implement it soon. “We will increase the supply from September and will reduce it again in winters. Though this year in winters, the water supplied will be more as compared to last year. The water in Bisalpur is enough for two years,” said Khan.

There were even discussions of providing water to Mawta and PHED secretary Sandeep Verma has asked the officials to make a plan soon to provide Bisalpur water to Mawta.

Khan said that taking water to Mawta is under consideration. “It is a tourist spot and related to religious sentiments. We are waiting for the monsoon to get over. It is expected that water will reach Mawta in the monsoon or else we will make some arrangements. A few years back, we did fill the place up with Bisalpur water. This year, similar plans will be made,” assured Khan.
