Jalandhar villages to have 1866 water recharging projects by September

JALANDHAR: In order to conserve the depleting ground-water table in Jalandhar , district administration would complete 1866 water recharging projects by the September 15 this year.


This was told by Jalandhar ADC Kulwant Singh to a panel constituted by the union government under Jal Shakti Abhiyan and led by the Ministry of Justice, Joint Secretary Rajinder Kumar Kashyap completed its three day visit to make an assessment of the situation in rural areas.



Kashyap said that they would soon come up with a comprehensive plan for Jalandhar district for conserving the depleting ground water in it. He said that during the current visit the team led by him had visited the various areas to assess the ground level situation. “Besides analysing the entire situation focus was also laid on inspecting the works done by district administration in this regard. New suggestions were also given by our panel for water conservation and recharging the ground water level through a concrete action plan,” he added.

Meanwhile the ADC said that out of these 1866 works, around 166 would be of rain water harvesting, 246 would be of reuse/recharge of water table, 190 would be of watershed/ check dams, 277 of recycling of traditional water bodies and 537 of massive afforestation. He said that the work would be completed in a time-bound and result oriented manner so that immediate action was ensured for water conservation.
