Jalore woman cop's suicide: Kin end stir

JAIPUR: Two days after a woman constable committed suicide in Jalore , her family members on Saturday finally agreed for the postmortem, after several-hour-long meeting with senior police officials.


Jalore SP Kesar Singh said that Geeta’s family members were demanding suspension of Dy SP and Sanchore SHO, but it was not possible under the model code of conduct.

“We had already filed an FIR against the CO, SHO and a head constable for abetment of suicide. We have assured them of a free and fair probe into the matter,” he said. The family members, who were staging a protest in Jalore, finally agreed for the postmortem. Geeta, was posted at Sanchore police station and had on Thursday returned after completing her duty. She was found hanging in her police uniform.

In a screenshot that she had sent to her family members before ending her life, Geeta alleged that she was constantly pressurized by the SHO, and a head-constable. A native of Dhorimana in Barmer district , her relatives alleged that she was pushed to take the extreme step because of the senior staff.

“The family members will be handed over the body for cremation after the postmortem. A senior official is probing the matter,” an official said.
