James Maddison's former Leicester City team-mate says the midfielder will join Man Utd

James Maddison will sign for Manchester United because he's "world class".

That's the opinion of his former Leicester City team-mate Danny Simpson, who reckons the midfielder would improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Red Devils side.

The Foxes signed Maddison on a five-year deal from Norwich for just £20million back in 2018 as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez, who joined

Manchester City.

He is worth considerably more in today's inflated market, and was linked with Liverpool among other big sides in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United have recently emerged as favourites to sign £80million-rated Maddison when the window re-opens in January.

Simpson, whose contract expired at Leicester this summer, was asked on Sky Sports whether he thinks Maddison will join the Old Trafford club.

He responded: "Yeah. He, for me, is world class.

"I think people are speaking right now but honestly I think for an English player as well, honestly he's world class and he's only going to get better and better.

"He's that good, honestly. Honestly, he's got it all. He's quick in his mind so I think he doesn't need to have blistering pace running past people because he's clever and he thinks before everyone else.

"He gets in them little pockets, gets into the right spaces, he's kind of got eyes in the back of his head. The way he receives the ball and turns and puts defenders on the back foot.

"So he doesn't have to be your typical 'I'm going to run past you and beat you' because his qualities are there with his vision and his passing."
