Jammu & Kashmir Exit Poll Results: Revival on cards for Congress, allies

Srinagar/New Delhi: The Times Now-VMR expects the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to win two seats in the northern-most state while the Congress and allies are predicted to get four seats. The elections were held in five phases starting April 11, 2019, across the 6 parliamentary constituencies in the state.

The poll predicted a massive difference in the voting share between the two former allies of BJP and PDP at 30.6% and 10% respectively. The Congress-led United Progress increased its footprint in 2019 elections at 48.92% vote share.

The sceptre of security has always been an issue when it comes to polling in the insurgency-hit state.

In 2014, the Omar Abdullah-led ruling coalition was overwhelmed by Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and BJP sharing six seats in the state. Apart from Mufti, PDP’s Muzaffar Hussain Baig and Tariq Hamid Karra were elected to the 16th Lok Sabha.

In Jammu, BJP won both the seats in a major defeat for Congress’s Ghulam Nabi Azad. The saffron party even bagged Ladakh by a thin margin as a result of infighting between ruling coalition partners National Conference and Congress.

The six parliamentary seats in J&K include Baramulla, Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur, Ladakh and Anantnag.

The state shares its borders with Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. The polling was conducted in five phases on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29 and May 6. The results will be announced on May 23.
