JD(U) slams BJP Bihar chief for remarks against Nitish

PATNA: JD(U) MLC Ranbir Nandan on Thursday slammed state BJP president Sanjay Jaiswal for his outburst on CM Nitish Kumar over massive waterlogging in the city. Jaiswal had criticised Nitish on Wednesday for the state government’s failure to drain out rainwater from the waterlogged localities of the city even after five days.

Ranbir sought to know from Jaiswal how the CM could be held responsible when a BJP neta is holding the urban development portfolio. “Besides urban development department, health and public health and engineering departments are also held by BJP leaders. Moreover, the mayor of Patna is also attached with the saffron party,” he said.

Lashing out at Jaiswal, an MP from Bettiah, Ranbir said most constituencies in the state capital are represented by BJP leaders in the assembly and crores have been spent on drainage system and improving the infrastructure in the state capital under the CM Urban Development scheme.

Asking BJP to maintain restraint, Ranbir said the central leadership of the saffron party should suggest its functionaries from Bihar not react to the public-centric issues in haste. “It’s not the right time to blame each other but to provide relief to marooned people of the state,” the JD(U) MLC said.

He said the CM himself took stock of the situation arising out of heavy rainfall in the state. “The CM waded through knee-deep water to meet the affected people of Rajendra Nagar, Kankerbagh and other localities on September 29. Relief and rescue operations are on in full swing in the affected areas,” he added.

Earlier, JD(U) national secretary general K C Tyagi took a potshot at leader of opposition in state assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who is conspicuous by his absence when the state is reeling from natural calamities. “Wo kabhi kabhi dikh jaate hain,” Tyagi said.

“The role of opposition is not as it should be,” said another JD(U) leader in an oblique reference to Tejashwi’s long absence from the state.
