PATNA: Tension prevailed at Jehanabad even though no fresh incident of clash was reported from any part of the district on Saturday. Prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC continued for the third consecutive day on Saturday.

Jehanabad SP Maneesh described the situation as tense but under control. “No fresh incident of clash was reported on Saturday. However, we are cautious and don’t want to leave anything to chance,” the SP said, adding 60 people have so far been arrested.

The main thoroughfares of the town wore a deserted look as all shops and business establishments remained shut for the third consecutive day. Even medicine shops were not opened and only emergency patients were admitted to the government hospitals in the town. Internet services in the town remained snapped as a precautionary measure.

On Friday, one person was shot dead and another injured in Jakarganj locality of the town, leaving the top police officers red-faced. Incidents of clashes were also reported from at least six places in the town in which 12 people, including three policemen, were injured.

The town witnessed communal flare up after stones were allegedly pelted at an idol immersion procession near Arwal Mor.
