Jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh looted in Buxar

Patna: A gang of armed miscreants allegedly looted gold jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh from a jeweller in Buxar district on Friday morning.

The victim, Pankaj Verma, told police that one Manish and his associates visited his shop at Thatheri Bazar under the town police station area and looted gold jewellery at gunpoint.

The robbers confined him in the shop before escaping with the booty and Pankaj raised the alarm.

According to the jeweller, Manish, who is a resident of Dildarnagar in Buxar district, used to visit his shop frequently and had hatched a conspiracy to commit the crime. Later, station house officer (SHO) of town police station, Aslam Sher Ansari, visited the site and inquired about the daylight robbery.

Buxar superintendent of police Upendra Nath Verma said the jeweller had submitted a written complaint to police.

“The victim has disclosed the names of few suspects in the case and the matter is being verified. Action will be taken on the basis of evidence,” he told this newspaper over phone.

The incident has worried the jewellers in the town.
