Jind: MLA files complaint over fake Twitter account

Jind: Local MLA Krishan Midha of the BJP on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Jind superintendent of police (SP) after someone allegedly created a Twitter account in his name and made a nasty remark on the India-New Zealand cricket world cup semi-final match in which Union home minister Amit Shah was quoted as saying “19 run chahiye the 19 vidhayak chahiye hote to mai kuch kar sakta tha (19 runs were needed, if 19 MLAs were required I could have done something).”

At the time of the filing of this copy, the tweet was deleted from the account. However, Twitter users trolled Midha the entire day. Some even alleged that the BJP had purchased Midha from another party and fielded him from Jind assembly in the byelection.

Midha had joined the BJP after the demise of his father and INLD MLA Hari Chand Midha. Later he was fielded by the BJP in Jind bypoll in which he had defeated Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala and Digvijay Singh Chautala of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP).

The Twitter account was created in January and has 661 tweets and replies while 76 photos and videos have been posted from the account so far in support of the BJP. The account user has 1,798 followers and follows 32, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and state BJP president Subhash Barala, on the microblogging site.

On being contacted, Midha said he didn’t have any Twitter account and someone had done a mischief using his name. “When I was in Chandigarh on Thursday, I got the tweets that were shared with me. I immediately sent a complaint to the Jind SP to initiate action in the matter.”

Jind SP Ashwin Shenvi said deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Kaptan Singh would probe the incident.
