Jodhpur: Murder accused surrenders before police

Jaipur: An accused in the murder case of loan recovery agent Mahaveer Meena surrendered in Pali’s Makrana police station on Tuesday. Shivraj Singh had shot dead Meena in Harmada on October 5, possibly due to gang rivalry.

A team of cops brought the accused from Makrana to Jaipur where he is currently being interrogated.

Meena (25), a resident of Murlipura, was riding his two-wheeler when two bike-borne youths fired at his head near Loha Mandi area. Meena fell off his bike and died on the spot.

“We have one accused in our custody and at present it is too early in the investigation to ascertain the motive behind the murder. It could be gang-rivalry. Since we have not interrogated the accused at length, it is too early to comment on the investigation”, said a police officer.

Meena worked as a loan recovery agent for a finance company and stayed at a hotel in Harmada for three days before he was killed. On August 7, two unidentified men had shot at Virendra and Chander near Benar road. The duo was critically injured. It is suspected that Meena was their friend and had locked horns with the accused for attacking them.

Meena was drunk when he learnt that his friend and associate Chander was shot at by a history-sheeter near Dadi Ka Phatak on Benar Road. In a drunken state, Meena posted a long tirade against the history-sheeter, who are suspected to have fired upon Chander. Sources told TOI that some messages did not go well with his rivals and took a violent turn leading to Meena’s murder.
