Joint squad to identify accident-prone spots in Durg

RAIPUR: In a bid to reduce road accidents in Durg district, the district administration recently formed a joint squad compri sing the engineering wing and RTO officials.

The district road safety committee held a meeting this week and identified the black spots across the district. It framed a strategy to bring down the number of accidents.

As per the plan, the joint squad with SDO-level officers of the engineering wing on board will reach the spot of road accidents and find out the root cause of the accident - whether it was due to engineering, traffic-related problems or rash driving. Measures will be taken to rectify technical problems, if any, at the earliest. Regular reports will be prepared by this committee, which will be sent to the state government for monitoring purpose. SDO-level officers of the engineering wing will be members of this team.

During the meeting, it was decided to install rumble strips on the service road, too. A traffic signal will be installed at Charoda and in Kumhari near Royal Khalsa Dhaba for smooth traffic flow. Additional traffic police will also be deployed at these places. The committee decided to install speed indicators on the highways.
