JSPL Foundation's co-chairperson Shallu Jindal conferred with Mahatma Award

JSPL Foundation’s co-chairperson Shallu Jindal, was on Tuesday conferred with the prestigious ‘Mahatma Award for Leadership in Corporate Social Responsibility’ for her contribution and commitment to improving the quality of lives of the people in rural India.  Padmabhushan awardee Rajashree Birla and other luminaries presented her with the award in Gurgaon.

The JSPL Foundation also bagged Mahatma Award for its ‘CSR Excellence and Social Good’ for demonstrating excellence and the highest standards of ethical conduct, integrity, civic and social responsibility. The award for the JSPL Foundation was received by Prashant Hota ,Executive Vice President & Group Head CSR & Sustainability.

This comes just days after Shallu Jindal was honoured with the CMO Asia’s Best CSR Award in Singapore and Aekalavya Award 2019.

Thanking the Jury for the Awards, Jindal Said, “I am obliged to God for the divine Blessings for which we could touch the lives of nearly two million underprivileged and socially vulnerable people. And with our meaningful hand-holding, they are making efforts to change their own lives and the lives of their next generation for a better tomorrow. Praying God to give us the strength to continue this journey to build India and empower lives.”

The Mahatma Award is presented annually to honour outstanding performance in a wide range of categories to the individuals and organisations who have uplifted the quality of life of the socially vulnerable and underprivileged.

The annual Award ceremony is hosted by Liveweek LLC, a social impact company registered in USA.

Jindal said that ‘this prestigious award will make us more responsive and more sensitive to address the needs of the underprivileged and socially vulnerable in a comprehensive approach.’

With Shallu Jindal at the helm, the JSPL Foundation, the CSR Arm of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL), has been working for the holistic development of the underprivileged and socially vulnerable living in rural India.

The Foundation says that it has positively impacted lives of near two million lives through its multidimensional sustainable social development initiatives in health care & nutrition, quality education, skill-building, livelihood promotion, women empowerment, rural infrastructure, agriculture, environment, sports, art & culture across various states in India.

Major geographical areas in which the Foundation works are Angul, Keonjhar and Sundergarh districts of Odisha, Ramgarh and West Singhbhum districts of Jharkhand, Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh and Nuh district in Haryana. It has also promoted 11000 micro-enterprises enhancing the sustainable income of 30000 families.

She is also the Vice President of Flag Foundation of India inducting the glories and pride of the National Flag, the Tiranga in People of India. Jindal, the wife of industrialist Naveen Jindal, has also compiled two books ‘the Tiranga’ and ‘Freedom.’

She has also authored a book for children titled as ‘India: An Alphabet Ride’. She is the former Chairperson of National Bal Bhavan and the Founder President of Young FICCI Ladies Organisation and (YFLO). She has also founded the Jindal Art Institute.
