Junagadh civic body polls today

Rajkot: A total of 57 seats of 15 wards of Junagadh Municipal Corporation (JMC) are all set to go for polling on Sunday.

In this civic body election, there are total 156 candidates in the fray out of which BJP has fielded 56 candidates. Three BJP candidates have already won uncontested. While 49 candidates are contesting on Congress tickets, NCP has nominated 25 candidates and CPM one, while an independent candidate will also face the test on Sunday.



There are 2,38,116 listed voters, of which 1,22,572 male and 1,15,452 are females who would cast their votes at 296 polling booths which will be manned by 1,307 poll personnels. 360 EVMs will be used to register votes in the JMC election.

“After fierce campaigning had come to an end on Saturday evening, candidates of different political parties started door-to-door canvassing to woo voters. To garner maximum mileage for its candidates, the BJP fielded CM Vijay Rupani, BJP state president Jitu Vaghani, BJP state vice-president Gordhan Zadafia, election in-charge Nitin Bharadwaj and Anjali Rupani of the women's wing as star campaigners,” said a political observer.

“On the other hand, state Congress president Amit Chawda and senior Congress leader Hemang Vasavada campaigned for their candidates,” the observer added.
