Kandi farmers to get 50% aid for fencing fields: Dharamsot

CHANDIGARH: To help farmers protect their crops from wild animals, Punjab government is providing financial assistance to the tune of 50% to farmers in Kandi region for fencing their agriculture fields.


Forests minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot has stated that a pilot project had been started in Kandi area under which farmers would be eligible to take financial benefit of upto 50% to get the fencing done.



The farmers of Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Ropar and Mohali falling under Kandi region can avail of this benefit, Dharamsot said, adding that the farmers could use wooden posts and angled iron/cement fence post for fencing their fields. Assistance of Rs 125 per running meter in case of fencing through wooden posts, besides help of Rs 175 per running meter if fencing was done by angle iron/cemented fence would be extended, he added.

Under this scheme, in case of prior fencing by farmers on their own expenses, the amount would be transferred in farmer’s accounts through direct benefit transfer (DBT) or cheque, the minister said, adding that up to March 2019, assistance of Rs 8.13 crore had been provided to 1,280 farmers of Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Roopnagar and Mohali.
