Kandi Farmers To Get 50% Financial Assistance For Fencing Fields : Sadhu Singh Dharamsot

To ensure protection of crops from wild animals, Punjab Government would provide financial assistance to the tune of 50% to farmers in Kandi region for fencing around their agriculture fields. Disclosing this here today, Forests Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot stated that a pilot project was beign run in the Kandi area under which farmers would be eligible to take financial benefit of up-to 50 percent to get fencing done.

The farmers of Pathankot, Hoshiarphr, Nawanshahr, Rooonagar and SAS Nagar falling under Kandi region can avail of this benefit under this programme, Dharamsot further said. Forests Minister said that farmers could use wooden posts and angled iron/cement fence post for fencing their fields. Assistance of Rs. 125 per running meter in case of fencing through wooden posts besides help of Rs. 175 per running meter if fencing was done by angle iron/cemented fence would be extended, he added.
Under this scheme, in case of prior fencing by Farmers on their own expenses, the amount would be transferred in farmer’s accounts through DBT or Cheque, the Minister said. ‘State has a fair share of natural forest area and naturally a variety of wild animals like deer, wild pig, Neel cow and monkey are found in the state,’ Dharamsot said. These animals at times in search of their food destroy crops of farmers which lead to conflict between farmers and animals.  The aim of this assistance is to reduce this human animal conflict, the Minister added.
Minister further said that up-to March 2019, assistance of Rs. 8.13 Crore have been provided to  1280 farmers of Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Roopnagar and SAS Nagar, he added.
