Kanpur: Son dies, father silent till daughter's nuptial vows

KANPUR: Tragedy struck a man on the day of his daughter’s wedding when his teenage son died in a road accident just hours before the ceremony. He kept quiet till the rituals were complete and then broke the news to the family and guests and fell unconscious.

The incident, which has now become the talk of the town, was reported from Kariyajhala village in Jhinjhak under the limits of Mangalpur police station of Kanpur Dehat on late Wednesday evening.

Reports said just hours before wedding of his elder sister, a speeding truck cut short the life of 18-year-old Himanshu Yadav near Kariyajhala turn in Jhinjhak. “He was heading to the marriage venue on his mobike after collecting some wedding related material from his Kariyajhala turn home at around 7 pm on Wednesday,” said a relative.

Bystanders found the youth thrown off his bike, lying in a pool of blood. “They immediately rushed a critically injured Himanshu to a nearby community health centre, where his condition deteriorated and he died. Soon, they alerted his father Ram Naresh, for whom world has come a standstill and who was too shocked to react. They, however, went on to advise him to not reveal about the tragedy till the marriage of his daughter was solemnised,” he added.

Despite the tragedy, Ram Naresh participated in the ceremony and his daughter Anju's marriage was solemnised with Aniket of Bharthana area of Etawah in the presence of hundreds of guests. Although the family members inquired about Himanshu’s absence, Ram Naresh managed to dodge the queries. He, however, broke the tragic news on Thursday morning to his family members, including his wife Kiran and younger son Sumit after the ‘vidai’ ceremony of his daughter Anju was completed. Later, he fell unconscious.

“As I didn’t want to spoil their happiness, I decided not to tell about the tragedy to anyone. I am happy that my daughter is married, but I am completely heartbroken that my son Himanshu has left us forever. It’s a complete bolt from the blue,” Ram Naresh wept while talking to TOI over phone on Thursday.
