Karnataka: Dakshina Kannada, Udupi record 381 fresh Covid-19 cases

MANGALURU/UDUPI: Coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi recorded 381 fresh cases of Covid-19 infection on Wednesday. While Dakshina Kannada district recorded 208 cases to see its total positive cases soar to 5,306, Udupi accounted for the remaining 173 that saw its total positive cases inch closer to 4,000-mark at 3,894 cases.




While DK is currently third among districts with total positive cases, Udupi occupies the fifth position.

Covid-19 related deaths continued unabated in the two districts with seven reported in DK and one in Udupi taking the total to 125 and 25 respectively. The seven victims in DK included three patients from Mangaluru and one each from Bantwal, Dharwad, Karwar and Padubidri respectively. The district bulletin issued by Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha indicated an increase by one case, Covid-19 related fatality against 24 on July 28.

The 208 fresh cases in DK district include 65 primary contact, 73 diagnosed as suffering from influenza like illness (ILI), 12 diagnosed as suffering from severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) and source of how 58 contracted the disease is being traced, Sindhu B Rupesh, deputy commissioner stated in the district bulletin. Health authorities discharged 118 patients taking the total number of those discharged to 2,456 to leave them handling 2,715 active cases.

Udupi district on the other hand has discharged 2,323 patients so far including 84 during the day to leave health authorities there handling 1547 active cases, Jagadeesha said. Noting that instances of people who are primary contacts and under home quarantine breaching quarantine are being routinely reported, DC warned that strict action will be initiated against all those who do so adding FIR has already been registered against 69 violators as on date.
