Karnataka: New Kodagu zilla panchayat building to be inaugurated by CM B S Yediyurappa

Madikeri: The zilla panchayat office will soon start functioning from the new building in Vidyanagar, on the outskirts of Madikeri town.

After functioning out of the Old Fort building for several decades, the ZP has now got a new structure. The building will be inaugurated by chief minister B S Yediyurappa on October 25.



The work on the building had begun in 2016 at a cost of Rs 26 crore. The three-storey building has come up in an area of 1.60 acres. Earlier, the ZP had acquired five-acre land for this purpose.

The ZP complex is equipped with elevators, spacious auditorium, CCTV surveillance and parking facility, apart from basic amenities. Waste management facility has also been provided. The district court and central high school are located in the vicinity of this new building.

The first floor will have chambers of ZP president and vice president and separate chambers for the members of the legislative assembly, legislative council and presidents of ZP standing committees. The second floor will have of offices of various government departments.

The third floor will have chamber for ZP chief executive officer alongside accountant’s office, conference hall, video conference hall, offices of the planning officer, deputy secretary, assistant secretary and project director.

The auditorium has been designed following the model of Bengaluru Vidhana Soudha with a seating capacity of 170 people, facilitating ZP meetings.

Currently, the ZP is functioning from the Old Fort building and the archaeological department had already issued notices to shift the ZP offices to maintain the historical structures.
