Karnataka: Priest's body found after five days, cremated
MADIKERI: Five days after a landslide in Kodagu’s Brahmagiri Hills destroyed the house of Talacauvery temple ’s chief priest , rescue personnel recovered the body of TS Narayanachar, 72, from under the debris 2km away from the spot on Tuesday.
Search operations to locate the priest’s wife Shanta and two assistants are on amid heavy rain.
District minister V Somanna, who is overseeing rescue and relief efforts, said the operations won’t be called off until the three missing persons are located.
The body, which was mangled beyond recognition, was identified by his family members. Later, it was shifted to Bhagamandala where it was cremated at the family estate in presence of his daughters Namitha and Sharada, and two granddaughters who arrived from Australia and New Zealand on Monday.
The rescue team found the body of Swami Ananda Teertha, brother of Narayanachar, on Sunday. He was cremated in his estate on Tuesday. Narayanachar’s pet dog was also found near the landslide spot.
