Kartik Aaryan starrer Pati, Patni Aur Woh producer confirms dropping controversial line on marital rape

Kartik Aaryan starrer Pati Patni Aur Woh released its trailer on November 4 and immediately faced a backlash on social media for an insensitive joke on marital rape. Facing flak for his production, Juno Chopra has confirmed to a leading daily that the controversial dialogue on marital rape has been removed from the film.

He went on to explain that he respects people's sentiments, which is why they have omitted the dialogue.

The trailer which looked like a revamped version of Govinda's Biwi No.1 has a crass monologue delivered by Kartik's character, Chintu Tyagi. The monologue says, "Biwi se sex maang lein toh hum bikhaari, Biwi ko sex na de toh hum atyachaari, Aur kisi tarah jugaad laga ke usse sex haasil kar lena toh balaatkari bhi hum hai."

In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, producer Juno Chopra said, "Both my grandfather (BR Chopra) and my dad (Ravi Chopra) made socially relevant films and while I haven’t made one yet, I believe in doing the right thing. Respecting people’s sentiments, we’ve edited out the lines.”

The actors and the makers of the film have publicly apologised for the dialogue. In an interview, Pati Patni Aur Woh actress Bhumi Pednekar apologised for the dialogue and she said, “If we have hurt anybody’s sentiments, we are sorry because that wasn’t the intention. But everybody who is involved in Pati Patni Aur Woh

, does not belong to that school, does not belong to that thought process.”

Earlier the film was in the news for dropping Taapsee Pannu and roping in Bhumi Pednekar, without informing the latter. Taapsee had publicly thrashed the makers of the film for their unprofessional behaviour.

Pati, Patni Aur Woh will be clashing at the BO with Arjun Kapoor starrer Panipat on December 6.
