Kasauli trip ends in woman techie's death

PANCHKULA: An IT professional was killed and her colleague injured after a truck hit their motorcycle in Pinjore on Sunday.


Rahul Kumar Gupta (27), a resident of Phase I, Mohali, said he and his colleague Sukhdeep Kaur, a resident of Karnal, had planned a trip to Kasauli along with another colleague Mahesh Chander, a resident of Pathankot.

Sukhdeep was riding pillion with Rahul, while Mahesh was on another motorcycle. All three worked in an IT company in Phase VIII, Mohali.

When they reached the light point at Mullah village, near Pinjore, a speeding truck hit the motorcycle of Rahul from the rear. Both Sukhdeep and Rahul fell on the road. Shopkeepers took the two to a primary health centre in Pinjore, from where Sukhdeep was rushed to PGI, Chandigarh, where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver fled, leaving his truck behind. Police registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving on public way) and 304-A ( death caused due to negligence) of the IPC (Indian Penal Code).
