Kashmir key poll plank in Ajmer student elections

Ajmer: Scrapping Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir is the major topic of discussion in students’ union elections in Ajmer . ABVP was ahead in Sanskrit College as no other student organisation fielded candidates for the polls.

ABVP is also using the social media to woo voters by promoting the abrogation of Article 370.

NSUI believes in door-to door campaigning to win the polls.

Banners and rallies can be seen in most parts of the city as the students’ union elections are approaching different campuses in Ajmer.

Samrat Prithviraj Chouhan Government College is important in the poll battlefield as it has a strength of more than four thousand. Dayanand College with its strength of about two thousand voters is also consequential.

Until last year, it was found that students’ union elections were mostly based on caste and religion. But this time, students are being seen discussing national-level issues, like the abrogation of Article 370.

Second year student, Manisha Chouhan of Government Girls’ College said that the BJP has done the right thing in to control terrorism in Kashmir and that her vote will be based on the Centre’s decision.

But third year student Sneha, has a different view, who thinks jobs and law and order are equally important factors and deserve attention.

Many student groups are seen shouting slogan like, ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ in the campuses. Meanwhile police and security agencies are on their toes as there is possibility of clashes. The police had to use force in Government College, when two groups came face to face and two student leaders were detained from university campus for disturbing peace.
