Kaushambi: Elderly woman killed, two injured in attack by criminals

ALLAHABAD: A 60-year-old woman was killed and two others sustained after a group of unidentified armed assailants attacked four persons of two families sleeping outside their houses at Kasia village in Kaushambi district early on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Sammara Devi, wife of Bhaiya Lal.

The injured including Bhaiya Lal (75) and Deepak (30) were referred to SRN hospital in Allahabad for treatment. The condition of both of the persons is stated to be critical.

Villagers alleged that this was the third incident in the past six months when people sleeping outside their houses were attacked and four of them were killed.

Upon being alerted, senior police officials including SP (Kaushambi) Pradeep Gupta along with forensic experts rushed the spot to look into the matter.

“The miscreants might have used sticks and sharp-edged weapons to attack the villagers and an elderly woman died on spot,” police inspector Ajeet Pandey told TOI

“While the body of the woman has been sent for autopsy, the injured persons were admitted at a government hospital for treatment,” he added.

The inspector, however, said that the motive behind the attack was yet to be ascertained.

“Two police teams have been formed to crack the case,” said a senior police official.
