Gautam Kumar Jha from Bihar on Wednesday night became the third contest this season to win Rs 1 crore this season. 30-year-old Jha hails from Bihar’s Madhubani district but is currently working for the Indian Railways in West Bengal. What helped him along the way was his clever answer on a Rs 25 lakh question related to honourary citizenship given to four prominent personalities. He had to answer who among Dalai Lama, Akshay Kumar, Kailash Satyarthi and Mother Teresa were given the honourary citizenship of Canada. The easiest answer would have been to name Akshay Kumar, who had earlier this year, sensationally revealed that he held the Canadian passport. But, the answer wasn’t so simple. So, Jha used his 50:50 lifeline and eliminated two wrong answers. He was left with Dalai Lama and Mother Teresa, prompting him to choose the Tibetan spiritual leader.
The question that he answered without using his lifeline was, “Aboard which Made-in-India ship did Francis Scott Key write the poem “Defence of Fort M’Henry” that became the US national anthem?”
His options were HMS Cornwallis, HMS Lindsay, HMS Clive and HMS Minden. Jha had no lifelines left but he remained adamant that the correct answer was HMS Minden. This earned him Rs 1 crore on the show.
He decided to quit the show after he failed to answer the question for Rs 7 crore. The question for Rs 7 crore was, “What was the name of all the three soccer clubs set up with the help of Mahatma Gandhi in the early 20th century in Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg.” His options were Truth-seekers, Non-violents, Passive-resisters and Non-cooperators. The correct answer was passive-resisters.
Jha said that he was preparing for the civil services exams and will hand over the prize money to his wife so that she doesn’t bother him in his exam preparations.
