Kerala: 18-year-old girl set ablaze by stalker, succumbs to injuries in Ernakulam

Thiruvananthapuram: In an appalling case reported from Kerala, where an 18-year-old girl who was set ablaze by her stalker in broad daylight on March 12, succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday. Reportedly, the victim had sustained 60 per cent burn injuries.

According to news agency ANI, the victim was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ernakulam district.

The eyewitnesses told the agency that the accused was identified as Ajin Reji who had set the girl on fire in Thiruvalla after pouring petrol over her. reportedly, an onlooker nabbed the accused as he tried to flee the spot and handed him over to police.

The police officials told ANI that the victim and Reji knew each other. They were walking together in Thiruvalla when suddenly the boy took out a can of petrol and set her on fire, added the police. 

However, the accused is currently under the police custody and he has been booked under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against him. 

In another case reported from Kerala's Kollam district, a minor daughter of a migrant worker from Rajasthan was allegedly kidnapped by a four-member gang who entered her house and took the girl away. The incident happened in Valiyakulangara area of the district at around 10:30 pm on Monday.

The accused were identified as  Mohammad Roshan and Vipin Paykuzhya. The victim was the eldest child of the migrant's family, who hailed from Pulliyal, Rajasthan. However, an FIR in the case was registered following a complaint by the minor's parents. Reportedly, the gang broke into the house and took the girl away after beating up her father.
