Kerala crosses 30,000 Covid cases, 98 dead

KOCHI: The state has reported 30,449 positive cases and 98 deaths so far. On Thursday, there were 1298 positive cases, of which 1050 were contact cases with source unknown in 76. There were also 800 recoveries.

Among the positive cases, 78 had come from abroad and 170 from other states. The contact cases include 29 healthcare workers, 3 KSE employees from Thrissur, and one INSH coast guard personnel.




Three more deaths were recorded in the day. Khadeeja, 51, of Majeswaram in Kasaragod who died on July 31, Shaharbanu, 73, of Uppala in Kasaragod who died on August 2 and Silva Adimai, 63, of Vizhinjam in Thiruvananthapuram who died on August 5 were declared positive. The district-wise positive cases were: Thiruvananthapuram, 219, Kozhikode, 174, Kasaragod, 153, Palakkad, 136, Malappuram, 129, Alappuzha, 99, Thrissur, 74, Ernakulam, 73, Idukki, 58, Wayanad, 46, Kottayam, 40, Pathanamthitta and Kannur, 33 each, and Kollam, 31. Of the 11,983 active cases in the state 3177 are in the state capital followed by 1147 in Ernakulam, 1098 in Malappuram, 977 in Kasargod, 966 in Kozhikode and 920 in Alappuzha.

The district-wise figures of local transmission are 210 cases in Thiruvananthapuram, 139 in Kasaragod, 128 in Kozhikode, 109 in Malappuram, 94 in Alappuzha, 62 in Thrissur, 61in Palakkad, 54 in Ernakulam, 44 in Wayanad, 36 in Kottayam, 23 each in Kollam, Idukki, and Kannur and 11in Pathanamthitta.

Of the new cases among healthcare workers, eight are in Kasaragod, seven in Thiruvananthapuram, five in Kozhikode, three in Ernakulam, two in Wayanad, and one each in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, and Kannur.

Among the recoveries, 146 patients are from Ernakulam, 137 in Thiruvananthapuram, 114 from Malappuram, 61 in Kasaragod, 54 from Kottayam, 49 in Kollam, 48 from Thrissur, 46 in Pathanamthitta, 41 from Palakkad, 30 in Alappuzha, 20 each from Idukki and Wayanad, 18 in Kannur and 16 from Kozhikode.

In the last 24 hours 25,205 samples were analysed. A total of 9,08,355 samples have so far been sent for testing and the results of 6,346 samples are yet to come.There are 12 new hotspots while 16 were exempted taking the total number of hotspots in the state to 511.
