Kerala: 'My Clean Ernakulam' drive begins

KOCHI: The cleaning drive of district administration to make Ernakulam waste free has begun on Saturday. District collector S Suhas inaugurated the ‘My Clean Ernakulam’ initiative, at Muttom Metro station limit at 7 am. Aluva MLA Anwar Sadat was also part of the drive.


Collector requested vendors and merchants in the area not to litter waste on roadside.

The initiative is implemented on experimental basis. More schemes will be formulated to make Ernakulam waste free. Similar cleaning drives will be held in every 15 days. The drive is conducted to create awareness among public on the need to keep hygiene in our premises and to understand the challenges in remove the waste, he said.

The initiative is implemented with the support of various departments. Around 208 National Service Scheme volunteers from Kalamassery Polytechnic College and SCMS College took part in cleaning one Km stretch between Muttam Metro station and Ambattukavu.

Around 65 volunteers of Anbodu Kochi and local people were also part of the drive. groups, comprising 20 volunteers in each group, were formed to clean the stretch. JCBs also used to clean the stretch.

Drinking water, gloves, T-shirt carrying the message of My Clean Ernakulam , mask and cap were also distributed to volunteers. Coordinator and liaison officers have been employed to evaluate the progress of the cleaning drive.

Public Works Department, National Highway Authority of india, Haritha Kerala Mission, Suchitwa Mission Health Department and Choornikkara panchayat join hands with the district administration in the initiative.
