Kid found near Ghatsila, missing Jamshedpur child's parents stake claim

JAMSHEDPUR: East Singbhum district police found a newborn baby in a dense forest area in Maoist-hit Gurabenda near Ghatsila on Friday late evening. A woman from sabar tribe spotted the girl child when she heard her cries.


The tribal found the kid abandoned near a boulder. She brought the kid to her village.

A Muslim woman from her village wished to adopt the child but her daughter in-law objected and informed the police station.

Gurabenda police informed their higher ups at the district headquarters in Jamshedpur .

On getting the news Jamshedpur police who was already looking for a new born baby, which went missing on Wednesday from state-run MGMMCH swung into action.

A team of cops from Jamshedpur left for Gurabenda, which is around 50km from the city. They brought the kid back in an ambulance and she was admitted in MGMMCH as she was ill.

Notably a couple from Chaibasa lost their new born baby from the hospital on Wednesday. CCTV footage showed that a blue-coloured saree clad woman walking away with the kid. Nurul Purty, the father of the kid had lodged a complaint with Sakchi police.

It may be mentioned here that this is not the first instance when a new born baby has gone missing from MGMMCH, many incidents have taken place in the past too.

Meanwhile, Nurul and his wife have stalked claim over the recovered kid saying she is their daughter. Police are in a fix as they are yet to confirm if Nurul and his wife are biological parents of the kid.

Police said only after proper indenification they would be in a position to hand over the kid, till then it would remain in their custody. Only proper DNA test can prove if the child belongs to Nurul, said a doctor.
