Knife hurled at Nagapattinam MP

NAGAPPATTINAM: Nagapattinam MP M Selvarasu had a narrow escape on Wednesday when a youth hurled a knife at him while he was speaking from an open vehicle thanking people for electing him.

The knife missed Selvarasu, 63, who was addressing people at Agasthiyampalli near Vedaranyam.

The youth along with his two friends escaped from the spot after throwing the knife.

Acting on the complaint, the Vedaranyam police registered a case against the three youths identified as R Logu, V Appu and N Lakshmanan.

Police said the trio had interrupted the CPI MP’s speech and asked him why he was visiting the village without solving the drinking water problem in the area.

As the crowd turned towards them, one of them aimed threw a knife at the MP, but it failed to hit him.

The trio were yet to be arrested, police said on Wednesday evening.
